PieChef.com offers Humorous Pie Stories and Kitchen-Tested Recipes
PieChef.com is a website devoted to the fine art of pie baking. One of its goals is to convince people that making pies really is “easy as pie” and fun too. Pie Chef Jane Fisher shares her love of pies and baking and offers humorous pie stories as well as tried-and-true recipes that produce delicious pies.
“As I started thinking about a web site,” says Fisher, “I realized that every pie I bake comes with a story. My husband encouraged me to write them down, along with their recipes, and voila! PieChef.com.
Stories range from The Great Apple Pie Bake-Off, which tells of three families’ annual pilgrimage to pick apples and bake apple treats; to a plea for bringing the red and blue states together in a Political Unity Pie made of blueberries and cranberries; to the adventures of Pumpkin Pie Down Under, where Jane learned that an Australian’s idea of an American pumpkin pie was quite different from the one her mother made!
The stories are both humorous and informative. The stories are linked to recipes, which provide step-by-step directions and include individual “Tips from Jane” that can help both the novice and the accomplished pie chef succeed. The Tips and the site’s photos create a personal connection, allowing the user to feel that he or she is cooking with a friend.
Unlike many cooking sites that offer thousands of recipes, PieChef.com is selective. It may not have every pie ever made, but you can be assured that the kitchen- and tradition-tested recipes result in excellent pies that don’t require you to spend all day in the kitchen.
Not sure which pie to make? Have a look at Pie-of-the-Month list, and the pages devoted to special holiday pies. Happy pie-baking!

“Jane’s Pie of the Month” Makes Pie Baking Easy
PieChef.com is devoted to the fine art of pie baking. Pie Chef Jane Fisher shares her love of pies and baking and offers humorous pie stories as well as tried-and-true recipes that produce delicious pies.
Jane’s Pie of the Month is a special feature. Based on seasonal ingredients, holidays, and the rhythm of the year, Jane’s Pie of the Month encourages people to take on the challenge of baking one pie each month.
For example, April’s Pie of the Month is “the-pie-that’s-not-a-pie,” Boston Cream Pie, in honor of Patriots Day, while February offers a “Cheery Cherry Pie” to celebrate both Valentine’s Day and George Washington’s famous adventures with the cherry tree.
Jane also shares funny stories of potential pies-of-the-month that didn’t come out quite right—like “George’s Chocolate Cherry Mess”—in the section called “Edible Bloopers.”
Jane's recipes provide step-by-step instructions and include individual “Tips from Jane” that can help both the novice and the accomplished pie chef succeed.
February’s Cheery Cherry Pie recipe, for example, comments on the use of frozen cherries versus fresh cherries. Another tip offers advice on separating eggs so that you’ll be able to make perfect meringues.
Unlike many cooking sites that offer thousands of recipes, PieChef.com is selective. It may not have every pie ever made, but Jane promises that the recipes result in excellent pies that don’t require you to spend all day in the kitchen. And with pies for every month of the year, the PieChef.com provides plenty of choice for the at-home pie chef.
Plan now to make “Red, white, and Blueberry Pie” for July 4th!
