Cranberry Custard Pie Blooper

Well, I wanted to make a cranberry pie for the December Pie of the Month, and I thought cranberry custard pie would be good and a bit unusual…

Cranberry custard pie
I’m not going to show you the disastrous blooper. Here’s my second effort: a successful Cranberry Custard Pie.

I decided to first do a layer of custard pie filling, and then top it with a cranberry sauce-type mixture.

It was very pretty to look at, but surprisingly bland.

The people at my church’s pot luck dinner ate every bite, but I was disappointed. There was nothing wrong with it, but there was nothing special, either.

So back to the drawing board. My next attempt produced the delicious Christmas Cranberry Pie

This time I got just the right combination of sweet and tart

You get the full taste of the cranberries, and just enough sweet custard to hold it together and bring out the flavor—exactly what I had in mind when I thought about this pie.

I’m glad that I still have only a couple bloopers, and I’m even happier that I didn’t let one failure discourage me!

Never give up!
