January 23 is National Pie Day, according to the American Pie Council.
In developing PieChef.com I came across the web site of the American Pie Council. Imagine my delight when I learned that National Pie Day is January 23!
Here’s how their web site describes it:
“Created by the American Pie Council, National Pie Day is dedicated to the celebration of pie.
“As part of our American heritage, this day is a perfect opportunity to pass on the love and enjoyment of pie eating and pie making to future generations.”
It reminds me of those wonderful French confréries established to protect recipes and promote consumption of all sorts of food and drink. (Here’s more…)
So I say, what better day to make a pie! If you’ve never made a pie, why not take a deep breath and decide to join the club on January 23?
If you’re an experienced pie chef, delight your family with a favorite pie.
For the full celebration, head for Rockland, Maine, where their annual Pies on Parade festival cheers the snowy days of winter.
This is sure to be a sacred holiday in my household!
